don't forget that Poland doesn't require it either - it's just "recommended". In fact hardly any countries in the EU legally "require" winter tyres....

Sorry but I just found it humourous how Britain is one of the few places that don't require winter tyres even when they do get snow! This is coming from a West Coast Canadian - contrary to popular belief our winters are quite similar.

Hi,

I would like to import a now or used (less than 1 year) car from Germany (from a handler) to Poland (on the name of a company).

Normally, as within EU, I should buy it without the 19% German VAT and then apply the 22% Polish VAT (and companies in Poland can only deduct maximum 6000PLN on the total car lifecycle).

My major concern, is how to do it... Actually I would like to do it from papers without showing the car in PL (just need the polish plate at a first step then I can drive from Germany).

I have another concern : I heard about a 18,6% akcyza on cars above 2 liters (it will be my case). If so, do I need to pay it on imported cars (new or second hand) ?

If so it would mean that there are crazy taxes over there...
... A 40K€ car would cost around 40K€ + 22% + 18,6% = 56240€ (I assume there is no VAT on this extra fee)

Can someone tell me if it is correct this 18,6% fee and in what case to apply it ?

Thanks,

Hi Vince

If you are just going to keep your bikes on private property and they will never be used on the road then I can't see any problems and I don't believe there is a requirement to register them. Just tell the DVLA you exported them so you don't have to deal with tax disc or SORN issues.

I've just come back to Krakow on my Kwak Zephyr 400.

Boll-cks to all this bureaucracy. I'll keep my bike with the UK plate.

Hi
Just wanted to say that this is incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Last year I tried to register a UK registered left hand drive Landrover in Poland. Having gone through all the hoops you describe (+ a few others) I eventually failed because I was told that I had to pay import duty and as a foreigner I was not permitted to pay tax in Poland! End of story. I couldn't buy insurance in Poland becausse the car was still registered in UK and in the end I had to drive it back to UK again.
Next time I'll make a point of asking them for the NIP form.

Thank you!

I believe it is in fact akcyza, it's just that it's dealt with at the VAT office in the Urząd Skarbowy and Polish people seem to generically refer to it as 'VAT' so it's quite confusing. But I think you are spot on - it is in fact akcyza as VAT is not paid on 2nd hand vehicles.

Perhaps what confused me is you calling it VAT . When you say VAT do you mean ''Akcyza'' ?

Ive just re-read your bit on Tax ''form VAT-24 - this is a form about importing a vehicle from abroad and paying VAT on it (yes that’s right - unlike the UK in Poland you pay VAT on second hand vehicles)'' and for some reason, probably as its late didnt digest it correctly. I now understand you in a shorter way said what i wrote above ... happy days ...
