I wish I had found this earlier. I sold my old pug in November and understood that the guy would have my insurance for 30 days. It now appears that he has my insurance until the end of term (June 2012). If you are selling a car with a long insurance then you need to get a form from the insurance company BEFORE you sell the car and ask the purchaser to sign it at the time. I got the papers after the sale and sent it to the guy and he said ‘You sold the car with insurance, that’s life’.

And, by the way, he did get it in his father’s name to keep the insurance down!

You could do that but you can’t MOT a Polish car in the UK. You would have to take the car back to Poland each year for the mechanical inspection. You are supposed to take the car out of the UK at least once a year. I don’t know if they can check that or how they check that. Usually it’s because a neighbour complains that your car is there the whole time and they investigate you. If that happens you might be asked to provide some evidence that you took the car out of the UK (e.g. by showing that you bought some ferry tickets for that car).

I have a question which you might be able to help with. Due to the high cost of insurance vehicles in the UK I am considering to buy a vehicle in Poland and also insuring it , with the intention of bring it back to the UK with polish plates.
Im polish, I do have Polish anmeldung on my ID but I also done cat. A in UK so I had to exchange my driving licence. I do hold my car driving licence over 10 years but the insurence companes in UK with my new categores A on it treat my as a new driver and the cost of insur a bike is very high to compare with Poland.
I will recall that in Poland I am entitled to have about 40-50 % discounts on the third party liability (my father registered on my name trailer some years ago)

Also is it possible to do MOT after a year in UK and transfer the documentation to Polish insurer to keep the insurence running?
And do I have to after 6 months cross the border? how they gone check that if I dont, and I will keep driving around UK?

So I understand that you are in the UK. In theory you can drive that car anywhere in the EU until April 2012 but how do you know that the previous owner hasn’t cancelled that insurance policy or stopped paying for it? I think you would have problems extending/insuring the car in Poland if it isn’t registered in your name in Poland. Can you not get some temporary ‘export’ number plates and insurance from Romania?

Hello.

My name is Alex…finally I have found a little Corsa for me, but the car has polish Insurance and Polish plates as well. I am from Romania and I would like to go home for Christmas. The care is insured until April 2012 in Poland. If I buy the car now, can I go home with it’s Poland’s Insurance or I need to make an another Insurance here in UK. Can I pay the Insurance for Poland after April 2012?

Yes, it looks like “H” doesn’t exist in Poland and is not recognised by the EU: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_driving_licence#Categories_valid_in_all_EU_countries.5B2.5D

Now for the strange question… Do you have any idea what Category “H” translates to in Poland?

It would be for driving tracked vehicles, I tried explaining this in the Urzad and was simply told “You can’t do that in Poland….”

Im going to buy Mercedes class C its for 2001 ,
is there any link where i could get information about how much should i pay for chepst insurane ,
and im not polish ,
can i just register it by my girl friend ? she would have any problem about ?

You would need to be registered at an address in Poland, and you would need to travel to Poland each year to do a technical inspection (i.e. MOT).

I have a question which you might be able to help with. Due to the high cost of insurance for commercial vehicles in the UK I am considering purchasing a vehicle abroad and also insuring it abroad, with the intention of bring it back to the UK with foreign plates.

I know that I can do this for a period of 6 months, at which point I must leave the country for 24 hours and then return. What I am not sure about is are there any laws in Poland which stop me, a British & EU citizen purchasing and registering a van in Poland.

Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks
