I'm sorry I couldn't tell you exactly how it was managed, I was just sent to office after office for 3 weeks, purely because every advisor had a different story about the requirements but you certainly need to be working here to get a PESEL and even though I managed it with only a 6 month contract, maybe 3 different officers said it wasn't a long enough period.. until I came to one who didn't seem to mind.. my opinion is it seems to depend on personality/competence of the official you speak to and what kind of mood they're in.. and an element that the guidelines change and aren't wel communicated.. or possibly remembered Finally got my Zameldowanie and a PESEL.. Having a residents card but no tenancy agreement means visits from the Dzielnicowe (The Residents Police or something like that) at your apartment and regular requests for your presence at the cop shop. Apparently as of 2006 a PESEL is required to renew your passport. I'm not planning to reside in Poland. Any chance you would know how I would go about doing this? Some of the instructions had to do with getting my Canadian birth certificate and having it guaranteed by the Canadian government and then notarizing it I think and it it went on and on.... I presume you will be renting somewhere to live when you come, so make sure that you get a proper tenancy agreement to prove you have the right to live at that address so that you can do your zameldowanie without any problems.
